Carmel, Indiana Family Photographer | The Lewis Family

I've been photographing the Lewis family since their kids were little. In fact, their youngest Ben was about one when I first started as their Carmel family photographer! Mom Leah, Dad Paul, daughter Sara, and little guy Ben make up this beautiful family of four, and every time they come to see me for their annual family photos it just makes me happy. For this October session, we chose a perfect spot close to home in Carmel because this family is busy, busy, busy with sports and activities. And you know that one beautiful family photo mom just needs for the Christmas card? Consider that done too!

What the Lewis Family Wore for Their Family Portraits in Carmel

I am often asked "What should we wear for our family photos"? And "Should I mix prints"? Well.. here is your answer.

The big thing we always talk about is outfits. Making sure that the kids and mom don't clash. I told Leah it was OK to mix patterns as long as the colors coordinated and one was a little less busy than the other. They definitely pulled it off.

Mom Leah wore a beautiful flowy dark floral dress with tall boots and we planned everyone around that. Her daughter Sara wore an adorable two piece print outfit in the same burnt red color that was also in mom's floral pattern with tall cream boots. Dad Paul looked amazing in chestnut brown twill pants and a casual navy blazer. Little guy Ben was perfect in his tan crewneck sweater with a dark denim shirt peeking from underneath.

My advice is always "Mom goes first." Find an outfit mom feels good in and the rest will come together

The Sweetest Sibling Love We Capture Each Year

We went outdoors for some fun and just being themselves as a super loving family. Finding the perfect spot close to home was key for this busy family. Carmel, Indiana has so many beautiful outdoor locations that I love for families!

This natural area is my secret spot for my families- tons of greenery, trees and tall yellow flowers. This spot is super easy to get too- gorgeous photos without the hassle of traveling far from home? Yes please.

This brother and sister love has always been sweet together. They're always willing to be post side-by-side, loving on each other and even doing a cute piggy back photo that we've done for many years now. It's fun to replicate it year after year!

Even though this location I used for the Lewis family is one that I keep to myself and my clients- here are a few parks in Carmel that I also love to shoot family portraits at:

1. Central Park (Westermeier Commons) - One of Carmel's most popular spots for family photos, with paved trails, tall grasses, boardwalk, creek, bridges, and open fields

2. Coxhall Gardens - A favorite location with manicured gardens, reflecting pools, classical architecture, rose garden, and amphitheater

3. Flowing Wells Park - Located off of 116th, features Cool Creek running through it with rock-filled water bed, bridges, and rustic areas

4. Cool Creek Park Nature Center - Large park on the north side of Carmel with flowing water, nature paths, wooded areas, open green spaces, and bridges

5. The Village of West Clay - Features meandering sidewalks, feathery locust trees, convenient parking, and a Central Park-like vibe with playground areas

6. Kawachinagano Japanese Garden - A small park near City Hall that's stunning in spring when Japanese trees bloom
