Westfield Maternity Photographer | Zooey’s Winter Session

As a Westfield maternity photographer, I get couples like Zooey and David who are absolute ROCKSTARS. Their maternity photoshoot took place at that tricky time between winter and spring (yes it was cold) where NOTHING looks fresh and beautiful.

We could have done an indoor studio session but mom really wanted her maternity photos outdoors! They trusted me to find the right spot and make the magic happen. AND we sure did!

Scroll down to the bottom of this post to see all my favorites from Zoeey’s pregnancy shoot with me! And take a peek at my full maternity photography portfolio.

Two Dresses for Zooey’s Maternity Portraits in Westfield

Zooey actually wanted to wear two dresses during this shoot. She sent me photos of both beforehand just to make sure they would look good at the location I was planning for. And I loved them both! They fit her baby bump perfectly and complimented her hair color so well.

She wore this vibrant red long dress and a muted olive short dress paired with brown tall boots. Both were great choices. I knew the natural tones would look perfect against the woodsy area and backdrop.

I advised Zooey and her husband to wear coats and bring a small blanket so they could warm up between shots while we walked around our location. Her husband wore two plaid shirts, one blue and one red, both with jeans and his signature cowboy boots. Their fall/winter looks worked beautifully with the tall brown grasses and that gorgeous path lined with fall foliage we found at our park location.

Mom also added a cardigan to one of her outfits to create another look and add variety to the session.

The Car Changing Station and Other Real Moments

Indiana may look a little dreary in winter, and even at the start of spring, but it sure does have some beautiful natural tones to work with. The park provided a natural backdrop to allow mom to show off that perfect bump, even when everything around us looked pretty bare.

Did we have to use the car as a non-glorified changing station? Yep! But nothing a dad and my huge light reflector can't hide. Sometimes you have to get creative during outdoor sessions, especially when it's chilly and there aren't any nearby facilities. We took everything off between looks and I directed them into poses that looked natural and worked best for their body types.

We did lots of different poses in this session including my favorites for couples maternity photos. Mom by herself. Mom with her husband looking at each other. Holding hands and walking. Looking down at the bump. Sitting on the ground on a vintage lace blanket. The kind of shots this growing family will look back on long after their newborn arrives.

Quiet Location for Maternity Photos in Westfield

This was definitely a fun night, even with all the challenges. Sometimes parks can be busy, but it was still a little chilly for everyone else to be out and about, which gave us more privacy for the shoot.

We had to dodge the mud during a few poses and walks, but I would say that was absolutely worth it for the shots we got. When you're working outdoors during transitional seasons, you have to be ready to adapt and work with whatever you get.

I always tell couples to bring extra layers, comfortable shoes, and be ready for a little adventure. The best sessions happen when everyone comes prepared and stays flexible. Working in my studio has its advantages, but I love going outdoors with couples for their maternity photos, even when conditions aren't perfect.
